Everyone stores their groceries differently, and sometimes that sparks debate over where you should keep specific groceries.

For example,should butter go in the fridgeor on the counter?

And do you store your nuts in a container in the cupboard or the refrigerator?

The same is true for natural nut butters, like organic peanut butter.

As the name suggests, whole grain flour is made fromwhole wheat grainsincluding bran, germ, and endosperm.

So to help preserve them and keep away pantry pests, store any whole grain flour in your fridge.

However, they also added a caveat: Consumers should stillrefrigerate their ketchupafter opening it.

However, it can lose its flavor over time if not stored in the fridge.

Sweet Corn

For the best flavor, you shouldcook and eat sweet cornright after its been picked.

Unless you preserve it, sweet corn starts to lose its flavor after harvesting.

Storing it in the fridge with the husks on will help it last longer and keep its sweet taste.

Flour Tortillas

After opening a bag of flour tortillas, you should keep leftovers in the fridge.

It’s important to properly store yeast so it lasts until its expiration date.

Transfer it to a freezer-safe bag that’s labeled with the date.

Opened Wine

Lynn Blanchard, the BHG Test Kitchen director, recommends refrigerating allleftover wine.

Seal the wine bottle with the cork or a stopper and place it in the fridge.

This will help slow the process.

We recommend storing it for up to 1-2 days in the fridge.

While plenty of foods are better left out of the fridge, they will last longer if refrigerated.

Citrus Fruits

Many of us store lemons, limes, andorangesin a bowl on the counter.

As pretty as this looks, it’s not the best way to store citrus fruits long term.

Citrus fruits stored in a cool area will last up to two weeks.

However, citrus stored in the fridge can last more than four weeks.

Pure Maple Syrup

If you’ve gotpure maple syrup, it should be stored in the refrigerator.

This will help prolong the life of the syrup as it doesn’t contain any preservatives.

Jam and Jelly

Once opened, you’ll want to store jams and jellies in the fridge.

This will help prevent or slow the development of mold and yeast.

If stored properly in the fridge, opened jars can last for months.
