What Is Chocolate Gravy?

Chocolate gravy is a thick sauce made with unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar, butter, and half-and-half.

It’s cooked until bubbly, and served warm.

The flavor is rich and fudgy, with just a hint of bitterness from the cocoa.

Our recipe testers liked it best when the biscuits were also warm.

What Else Is Chocolate Gravy Good On?

Once you’ve made a batch of chocolate gravy, the dessert possibilities are practically endless.

Drizzle it overpound cakeor quick bread (try it over ourpeanut butter bread).

It’s also great poured over ice cream or yogurt.

I’ve also enjoyed it over a bowl of fresh berries.

It’s particularly good with strawberries.

Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.

Cook and stir 2 minutes more.

Add Butter and Vanilla

Remove from heat.

Stir in butter and vanilla.

Cool and Serve

Cool slightly (about 15 minutes) and serve over warm biscuits.

How to Store Chocolate Gravy

Cover and store leftover gravy in the refrigerator up to 3 days.

Transfer to a saucepan and reheat over low heat, stirring frequently.

Add additional cream or milk, if necessary, to make a pouring consistency.
