Designers and homeowners are using this understated fixture in modern designs.

This time around, the classic basin is hailed for itsminimalist, low-frills appeal.

But that doesnt mean there isnt room to personalize the look.

Consoles are typically used more in a power room tool.

What Is a Console Sink?

The wall-mounted fixture consists of a countertop wrapping a built-in, sunken basin.

There are quite a range of styles, says designerLauren Nelson.

From classic to contemporary to vintage, modern iterations of the sinks can fit just about any design style.

Console sinks shine in a small footprint, she says.

Because they don’t offer storage, they can give the illusion of a bigger space.

That makes the sinks ideal for a lesser-used bathroomlike a powder bath, she adds.

But thats not all the fixture has to offer.

They add sculpture and are more visually interesting than a standard cabinet," she says.

“The right console sink can elevate a room.

For more contrast against a basic sink, consider adding a wallpaper, too.

Still, there are endless opportunities to create both open and closed storage.

When choosing a basket, see to it its the correct scale for the sink.

Something too low will draw the eye down and appear disproportionate.

A basket with too much height may overlap with the exposed plumbing.

Space provided, Keasler prefers, gets a bit bolder by incorporating a built-in adjacent cabinet.

A medicine cabinet above the sink can also be a discreet place to store toiletries, she adds.

Dont discount other wall space in the room.

Keasler echoes that keep-it-simple approach.

If you’re gonna wanna incorporate storage, look for decorative organizational elements.

A basket beneath can provide some storage but careful it doesn’t look cluttered, Keasler says.

If you choose a round basket, roll the towels neatly.

A square or rectangle basket is more conducive to traditional folding.
