All youll need is a few basic carving tools, our template, and some patience.
While the pumpkins are easy to carve, youll have to repeat the process multiple times.
To speed things up, divide and conquer.
We made ours from cut log pieces used forfirewood.
Layer the log pieces directly on the ground in a circular shape.
When youre done building the tower, use battery-powered lights to give the flame shapes a realistic flicker.
We recommend using faux candles, as real candles can be a fire hazard and speed up pumpkin decay.
(A vegetable peeler is a useful tool for this method.)
The light will shine through the pumpkins flesh, but the votive will not be visible.
Carved pumpkins last about three to five days, depending on their age, climate, andlocal pests.
Despite annual uproars about bleach-treated pumpkins being harmful to wildlife, studies have shown they are safe.
