Contrary to popular belief, changing the filter is just the beginning of the cleaning process.
Allow the ice to sit until the last batch is complete, and then remove it before cleaning.
KitchenAid suggests unplugging the fridgefor this part.
After everythings shut off, take out any removable parts.
Then, wipe out the ice maker mold with a mild food-grade cleaner and disinfectant.
Use a toothbrush (one not used for brushing teeth!)
or a small scrub brush to access any hard-to-reach areas.
Youll have to wait a bit before you might use the ice maker again, though.
Lewis suggests letting it cycle through two batches of ice and disposing of the products.
That ensures that any disinfectant or solution remaining inside the machine after cleaning is flushed out.
I think its a good idea to clean the whole refrigerator before you put it into use.
And dont forget to dispose of the first two batches of ice the refrigerator makes.
