It’s actually quite easy to prepare a pineapple properly.

So grab a whole pineapple and follow these four steps to cut fresh pineapple.

Step 1: Clean the Pineapple

No need for a special pineapple cleaner.

Tap water and a produce brush will do the trick.

Simply hold the fruit under the faucet whilethoroughly scrubbingthe skin.

What’s the point since you’re just going to peel it?

When you plunge a knife into the fruit, anything on the skin will be transferred to the flesh.

Step 2: Remove the Skin

Here’s how to cut a pineapple with a knife.

Use a knife to cut off the green crown and stem end of the pineapple.

Achef’s knifeis a good choice for the job.

Cut just deep enough to remove the skin without removing too much of the fruit’s flesh.

If desired, cut narrow wedge-shaped grooves to remove as many “eyes” as possible.

Then cut the fruit away from the core on each quarter; discard the core.

It’s one of our favorite ways to cut a pineapple without a knife.

First, look at the spiky display: Do any of the pineapples appear particularly plump?

Are the leaves a deep green color?

After you’ve eyeballed a few contenders, try the sniff testripe pineapple has a sweet, aromatic smell.

Peak pineapple season is from March through July, so expect to find the best fruits during those months.

Cut pineapple can last up to four days if placed in a tightly covered container and refrigerated.
