Scarecrows are an iconic autumn symbol, but their function goes beyondfall front porch decor.
Start with a 10-foot wood post anduse a sawto separate it into one 4-foot piece and one 6-foot piece.
Make a cross shape with the two pieces, aligning the 6-foot piece vertically and the 4-foot piece horizontally.

The 4-foot post should intersect about eight inches below the top of the 6-foot post.
Drill a screw through the two pieces to secure them.

Once the frame is securely in the ground, place a button-up shirt on the horizontal piece of wood.
Button up the pants and shirt, and tuck the shirt into the pants.
Use fabric paint or a paint pen to draw a black triangle nose and mouth below the eyes.
Once the paint dries, stuff the burlap sack with straw.
Tie off the bottom of the bag loosely.
Then, slide it through the top section of the vertical post.
Secure tightly to the post using twine.
Accessorize the Scarecrow
All your scarecrow now needs is a few accessories!
Start byusing a glue gunto hot-glue a bit of extra straw to the head of your scarecrow.
Then, attach a straw hat to the top using hot glue.
Top it all off by tying a scarf around its neck.
