A dull blade can tear the grass and leave it more susceptible to disease from the exposed tissues.

When the grass is cleanly cut, the blade is better able to absorb water.

If you follow our guide, you’ll only need two tools to sharpen your blade.

Just double-check to wear heavy gloves and consider eye protection before you get started.

Then, remove the blade from the mower.

If the blade isn’t balanced, file a little more metal from the heavier side until it balances.

Be sure to tighten the nut securely back into place.

And don’t forget to reattach the spark plugs.
