Should Oranges Be Refrigerated?

Whether or not you should refrigerate oranges largely comes down to how soon you plan to use them.

You dont have to refrigerate oranges right away, Collingwood says.

If youre planning to eat them within a week, keeping them on the counter is fine.

Theyll actually taste better because theyre a bit sweeter at room temperature.

Doing so will help slow down the ripening and keep them fresh for much longer.

Oranges should be refrigerated to prevent moisture loss and maintain texture and flavor, Gomes says.

To maintain their freshness, keeping them cold for as long as possible is key.

A fruit bowl or an open basket is great because it lets them breathe, Collingwood says.

This helps prevent mold from forming, she says.

You want them to stay fresh, not soggy.

Instead, plan to wash them right before eating.
