Here’s how to make the onion recipe, including tips for serving the finished dish.

What Are Tennessee Onions?

Theveggie casseroleis seasoned with thyme, garlic salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne.

Once baked, you’ll have sweet tender onions smothered with gooey melted cheese.

Ingredients

1 1/2cupsshredded cheddar cheese (6 oz.)

1cupshredded Monterey jack cheese (4 oz.)

Grease a 3-quart rectangular baking dish.

Add onions; toss to coat in butter mixture.

Assemble and Bake

Add half of the seasoned onions to the prepared baking dish.

Top with half of the cheese.

Repeat layers, ending with cheese.

Mixture will be full in the dish, but will decrease in volume as it bakes.

Cover with nonstick foil or foil coated in nonstick spray.

Bake 45 minutes or until onions are just tender.

Uncover and bake 20 to 25 minutes more or until top is golden.

Top with fresh parsley, if desired.
