What Is Green Bean Casserole?
Green bean casserole is an American classic.
The recipe was created in 1955 by Dorcas Reilly of the Campbell Soup Company.
The original recipe was made with green beans,canned soup, and French fried onions.
It’s been a popularThanksgiving side dishfor generations.
The recipe can be adapted withfresh green beans, as a cheesy green bean casserole, ortopped with bacon.
It’s endlessly customizable.
Ingredients
1(10.5-ounce)cancondensed cream of mushroomsoup
1/2cupmilk
2tsp.Worcestershire sauce
1/8tsp.black pepper
4(15-oz.
)canscut green beans, drained
1(2.8-oz.
If adding cheese, add it now.
Add green beans and 1/2 cup of the fried onions.
Transfer to a 2 1/2- to 3-quart baking dish.
Bake
Bake until heated through and bubbly, about 25 minutes.
Sprinkle remaining fried onions and slivered almonds, if desired, over the top.
Bake 5 minutes more.
