Take off your shoes.

Walking into a clean space makes you feel more comfortable.

Care about people and their safety.

There are many things you’re free to do to make your home comfortable.

Your air filter needs routine cleaning, too.

Q: What house rules did you grow up with?

Do you keep them in your home today?

Luckily, I just have some very simple rulesjust keep everything as clean as you possibly can.

Q: Speaking of drawing on the walls, I noticed you’re an artist!

Do you like to do your own artwork and drawings?

I mean, look, I’ve always been that kid.

Before I got on TV, I paid my way through art school doing construction.

Back when I was going through art school, there weren’t so many options.

That’s also kind of why I like aclean, neat space.

Q: How would you describe your design style?

You know, it’s funny.

I came up with a name a while back.

I would call it “modern primitive,” which is sort of an oxymoron.

It’s very form equals function.

You don’t need too much extra fluff.

And that’s exactly what I did when I built my home, especially for my mom.

With thesmart technologyout there, it’s possible for you to customize your home to your comfort.

That’s what it’s about to me.

It’s about customizing your home.

That, to me, is home.

Q: Does any renovation from the show specifically stick out to you?

I have to share one story with you.

He wasn’t able to be there [for the reveal], but the family was.

Sometimes we would have celebrity guests, and I wouldn’t be sure who it was going to be.

Then there was an artist who came in and started playing the piano, and it was Stevie Wonder.

That’s what I meanno one will ever understand unless you were in that room.

There’s no way to compare that show with any other.

Q: What makes your house feel like home?

I would definitely say the smell.

Aromatherapy is a real thing.

There are certain candles I just love the smell ofsandalwood is fantastic, but jasmine!

I don’t know what it is about jasmine, but man, it is the best.

I also love walking in the door and being greeted by my dogs.

It’s also laughter, and when you’re comfortable, you laugh more.

Q: Do your dogs get to be on the furniture and sleep in bed with you?

Of course, thedogs sleep in the bed.

It’s the best feeling.

I think that’s the best partthat they want to be so close to you.

It’s the best.

Q: How do you unwind at home after a long day of filming or doing renovations?

It’s the laughterand my mom is 83 now, but she’s still so funny.

But I’m so glad that I am, because you don’t want to have regrets.

Those are the precious moments, and that’s what home is about, right?
