When paintingsoffits and eaves, allot 1 to 2 hours for every 25 linear feet.

Before you begin, see to it the exterior has been properly prepped.

That includes scraping, repairing, and primingdamaged woodand cleaning the surface thoroughly.

Then grab your brushes and start at the top.

Cut in the edges of open areas, using a tapered sash brush as needed.

Don’t forget to paint the backsides of any vertical boards or fascia trimming the soffit.

Although you won’t see these surfaces, they still need the protection of paint.

Move the ladder to successive unpainted sections.

Cut in all the edges you might comfortably reach, including rafter extensions.

Then brush-paint joints or seams in the soffit facing.

When one section is painted, move the ladder to the next unpainted section.

Coat as many boards as you’ve got the option to comfortably reach.

If you have to overreach, adjust the ladder to one side or the other.

Cut in the edge of the siding first, then fill in.

Continue this process until the entire area is painted.
